How to Target Content on Youtube Using AI?

Target On Youtube

Digital and social media have truly transformed the way we communicate and reach our audiences. These days everything is instant at the touch of a button or tap or a screen, and marketing and advertising have had to keep up with that shift. Hence, there has been a major evolution in the way we market to target audiences.

What is audience targeting in social media?

A social media target audience is defined as a specific group of people you want to reach through your social media platforms. These are people who would be most likely to interact and engage with your content and be interested in your product or service.

Targeting refers to the ability to choose who your social media ads are shown to. Your target is developed based on specific demographics and behaviors, such as age, language, sex or gender, interests, stage of life, location, spending power and patterns, and sometimes even race.

If you are targeting other businesses (B2B), you may also consider the size of the business and who has the buying power in the business.

Why is targeting important in advertising?

In traditional media, targeting was less specific. You would design a billboard or flyer, or shoot a TV ad and put it in areas you believe your target audience would see it. Then, you would hope that the CTA would inspire leads.

With social media marketing, you are able to be very detailed with your target audience. Social and digital media utilizes AI technology to target people based on the parameters you set for your ads. Additionally, because of the specificity of digital ads, you are able to run reports that show your exact ROI (return on investment).

Targeted ads can be done on a variety of platforms, include YouTube.

How to target content on YouTube?

If you are running a video campaign, you want to ensure that your money is being spent wisely and that you are reaching your intended audience. This is where targeting with YouTube video campaigns comes in.

In order to target with video campaigns, you will need to know the two types of targeting methods available.

    1. Audience targeting methods – This includes setting up audiences that cover your:

  • Demographic groups – age, gender, parental status, household income.

  • Interests

  • Affinity segments – people who are interested in specific, relevant topics.

  • Custom affinity segments – this is more tailored to your brands, for example, instead of just “food” a vegan restaurant may want to reach “vegans” or “vegetarians” instead.

  • Life events – These are based on purchase behavior for milestones, like a wedding or graduation.

  • In-market segments – These refer to people who are researching or buying products or services that you offer.

  • Custom segments – This allows you to target users based on their recent searches on google.

  • Your data segments – Google allows you to reach more viewers by showing your ads to targets across all Google video partners. This is based on their past interactions with your videos, video ads, or YouTube channel.

  • Customer Match -This uses your online and offline data to re-target and re-engage with your customers across YouTube and Google video partners.

  • Similar segments – This targeting feature allows you to expand the reach of your best-performing audiences, by targeting new users with similar characteristics.

    2. Content Targeting methods – This lets you define where your ads will appear

  • Placements – You can choose for your ads to show up on target channels, videos, apps, websites, or placements within websites. These may be in the form of YouTube channels, YouTube videos, websites within the Google Display Network, and apps on the Google Display Network.

  • Topics – You are able to target a wide range of videos by targeting specific topics you select.

  • Keywords – Your video can show based on specific keyword phrases that are in a related YouTube video, channel, or website your audience is interested in.

  • Devices – You can even target specific devices that users are viewing content from, including computers, smartphones, mobile devices, smart TVs, or TV devices like the Chromecast.
